Anyone who has shopped for cabinet hardware knows how expensive it can can be. $3.99 to $6.99 for a single drawer pull or knob is commonplace, even for run-of-the-mill designs. Replace a dozen or more and the cost of your do-it-yourself project starts to add up fast.

A national home center has a contract with its hardware supplier requiring that certain pulls and knobs be on hand and ready for delivery in the event the retailer has need for them. Unfortunately for the supplier, the retailer often over-projects what they actually sell, sometimes by a little, sometimes by a lot, leaving the supplier with excess inventory.
