Job Lot Recycling Program Saves 6,821 Tons From Landfills
4/9/2010
2009 Ocean State Job Lot Recycling Program Progress

Ocean State Job Lot's company-wide recycling program netted impressive results in 2009 thanks to the efforts of our Associates and our customers. During the year 2009, we were able to recycle…

164 TONS OF OFFICE PAPER
FACT: Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

372.4 TONS OF PLASTIC
FACT: Recycling plastic saves twice as much energy as burning it in an incinerator.

5143 TONS OF CARDBOARD
FACT: Recycling 1 ton of cardboard saves 9 cubic yards of landfill space and 46 gallons of oil.

147.5 TONS OF STEEL
FACT: A steel mill using recycled scrap reduces related water pollution, air pollution and mining wastes by about 70%.

992.2 TONS OF WOOD
FACT: By using recycled or reclaimed wood, fewer trees need to be cut down, less energy is consumed for transportation of logs and less landfill space is needed.

3.04 TONS OF ALUMINUM
FACT: Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours -- or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline

We will continue our commitment to our recycling program and seek new opportunities to expand our environmental efforts in 2010 and beyond. Thank you all for your continued assistance and participation!
